Conference Information

The 17^th ISUF Conference will be organized by the Institut für vergleichende Städtegeschichte (Institute of comparative Urban History) at the University of Münster, in connection with the Institut für Geographie (Institute of Geography) of the University of Hamburg. The location for the conference will be the Geomatikum in Hamburg, and one day put off to the short-distance City of Lübeck, the former caput of the Hanseatic League.

The general theme of the conference is:

“Formation and Persistence of Townscape“

The interdisciplinary conference of ISUF wants to address to representatives of such disciplines who are interested in the study of Urban Morphology, and wants to take up a wide range of subjects. Special concerns of the conference should be:

· Urban morphological theory

· Models of town planning in former and present times

· Methods to analyze and to map the development of townscape

· The internal dialectic of form and function in urban development

· The research of the morphogenetic history of particular towns

· Historical dimensions of the evolution of townscape varying about different cultural contexts

· Historic preservation, sympathetic architecture, and innovative design as strategies of redevelopment of urban areas

· The morphology of urban open space in history and planning

· Defensible architecture and gated communities in former and present times

· Problems of townscape concerning to growing or shrinking towns

· Perceptional awareness and cognitive mapping of urban space

· The design of digital cities

Call for papers

The organization committee would like to get proposals of attractive papers for the conference. These proposals should have the following statements:

author(s), affiliation, postal address, e-mail address, telephone number, fax number, title of paper and an abstract of about 250 words in English.

Please send the proposal in PDF- or DOC-Format.

The official deadline for the submission of the paper proposals was March 31^st, 2010.
